Mandatory Survey – Schools Reopening

August 4, 2020

Good afternoon, parents.

Attached is our tentative schedule for 2020-2021 based on current information provided by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) and the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOE).  This schedule reflects our plans, which were submitted to the Interim County Superintendent’s Office for review.  North Arlington’s Restart and Recovery Plan has been structured with three internal phases:

Phase 1:  September 8, 2020 – October 16, 2020

Phase 2:  October 19, 2020 – November 27, 2020

Phase 3:  Begins on November 30, 2020

The attached schedule specifically reflects Phase 1:  September 8, 2020 – October 16, 2020.

Please take a few moments to carefully review the contents of the attached schedule before completing the mandatory survey, which will officially place your child(ren) in either a Hybrid Learning Model (In-Person & Virtual) or in a Fully Virtual Learning Model just through Phase 1:  September 8, 2020 – October 16, 2020.

Please remember that families who select the option of having their child(ren) learn completely through a virtual platform will have the ability to reassign them to in-person sessions only after Phase 1.  This is necessary to maintain appropriate social distancing guidelines within the parameters of the schedules created based on your responses.

Since we are still working to refine this tentative schedule, class schedules and times are not yet available.  We are releasing the attached tentative schedule now, as required by the NJDOE, so that families can begin planning for September.  We will be releasing more information throughout the month of August, but if you do have any specific questions, please contact your building principal.  Our goal is to have cohorts established by August 14, 2020 to further assist with planning.

Finally, as you consider either option, please know that North Arlington Public Schools adhered to the recommendations set forth by the NJDOE where face coverings were optional for students when properly social distancing within the school.  Although this was our plan, Governor Murphy just announced yesterday that all students must now wear face coverings in the school building.  We will review further guidance when we receive it; however, based on his comments, please know that all students must wear face coverings at all times while in-person instruction is taking place.

Parents must completed one survey for each child enrolled in North Arlington Public Schools.  The survey must be completed by Friday, August 7, 2020 at 3:30 p.m.

Virtual schedules will be clarified once all data is received to determine rosters, cohorts and/or teacher assignments.  Synchronous (Google Meet) and asynchronous instruction, guidance, and direction will be provided by our teachers to ensure student engagement in standards-based learning.

As always, thank you very much for your support and patience during these challenging times.  We are all here for your children and we are putting their health and safety first.

Thank you and stay well.

Stephen Yurchak, Ed.D.
